March 20, 2023

TDPS faculty member Abigail De Kosnik is one of five recipients of the 2023 Distinguished Teaching Award, the most prestigious honor for teaching at UC Berkeley. Administered by Academic Senate's Committee on Teaching, the award recognizes teaching that incites intellectual curiosity in students, engages them thoroughly in the enterprise of learning, and has a lifelong impact. Award recipients will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, April 26 at 5:30pm in Sibley Auditorium, Bechtel Engineering Center.

De Kosnik is the Director of the Berkeley Center for New Media, an Associate Professor in the Berkeley Center for New Media and the Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies, and an affiliated faculty member of the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies. She researches popular media, particularly digital media, film and television, and fan studies. She is particularly interested in how issues of feminism, queerness, ethnicity, and transnationalism intersect with new media studies and performance studies.

De Kosnik has recently taught the undergraduate courses "Performance, Television, and Social Media" and "Sound Design for Performance," and the graduate seminars "Cancel Culture: Performances of Public Complaint" and "Fandom + Piracy."
