Jacinta Vlach is the Artistic Director/ Founder of Liberation Dance Theater (LDT), a dance-theater collective rooted in ideologies of social change through artistic expression and community outreach. Vlach received her formal dance training from North Carolina School of the Arts and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center (Cert. of Dance Alumni). While in New York she danced in works choreographed by Reginald Yates, Sean Curran, Max Luna III, Alvin Ailey and others. Jacinta has toured and performed with Nathan Trice/ Rituals, Robert Moses’ Kin Dance Company, and Philadanco. During her stay at Philadanco, Jacinta had the pleasure of working with Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Geoffrey Holder, Ron Brown, Deborah Chase, Otis Sallid, and others. She has presented work throughout San Francisco, Chicago, and New York including E-Moves 9/ Harlem Stage, Identity Shifts/ Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Living Word Festival SF and Assoc. for Multi-Ethnic Americans/ Chicago Center for the Perf. Arts. She will be presenting a full program at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival/ Doris Duke Theater August 2009. Jacinta Vlach is the recipient of a Theater Bay Area Cash Grant, two Zellerbach Famly Foundation Grants (2007 + 2009), a Puffin Foundation Grant, SFAC’s Arts and Communities: Exploration Grant, and was recently named Resident Artist of ODC Theater/ SF. In addition to performance and choreography, she remains loyal to her passion of community activism and youth empowerment through arts education.
