Auditions & Performance Opportunities

push/FOLD: Dance Workshop & Company Audition

Auditions: May 15, 1pm–5:15pm, San Francisco

push/FOLD (Portland, OR) seeks 1–2 professional-level dancers, ages 22 and older, adept in athletic and line-driven movement, partnering, and floorwork for ongoing paid company positions beginning July 2024. Off-season training begins June 2024. This is a workshop-style audition with a selection process culminating in an invitation to rehearse with the company for up to 6 paid rehearsals following the audition. Killing My Lobster: General Auditions

Auditions: May 19 & 21, 2024

San Francisco's premiere sketch comedy nonprofit will be offering audition slots to join our acting pool on May 19, 2–6pm, and May 21, 7–10pm. All performers are paid SF hourly minimum wage. For this round, we ask you to prepare 1 minute of anything funny, be it a monologue from a play, an original piece, a song, a series of impressions. Magic Theatre: Writing & Dramaturgy Workshops

Event: May 11, 2024

Making Magic: A Masterclass is a new initiative within Magic Theatre’s Education geared to provide tools, resources, and techniques to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) who identify as writers and dramaturgs who are new, emerging, or established in the field. This event will include sessions led by Vidhu Singh, Jeannie Barroga, and Michael Gene Sullivan. MagicTheatre.org

Queering Cultural Forms: Free Class & Discussion Series

Events: May 3–18, 2024

The Queering Dance Festival presents a free series of classes and discussions at Shawl Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley. Featuring: Armenian dance, Folklórico, Bhangra, and African expression. Shawl-Anderson.org

Cal Shakes: Workforce Development Program

Applications Due: June 3, 2024

This course will introduce students to the practice of building and painting theatrical scenery. Students will learn how to excel in a shop environment with lectures and practical training in safety procedures, reading scale drawings, tool identification and use, carpentry, steel fabrication, and scenic painting. By the end of the course, students should have the skills and knowledge to pursue entry level employment in scenic construction and have a foundation to pursue other trades. CalShakes.org

UC Berkeley Summer Course: The Craft of Dramatic Writing

Course Dates: July 22 – August 9, 2024

The Craft of Dramatic Writing is an introduction to writing for the stage and screen through the study of published scripts and through writing and revising your own scripts. You will come to understand dramatic writing as an art and as a set of skills. New Media Academy: Indigenous Technologies Workshop

Course Dates: July 9 – August 15, 2024

Hosted by the Berkeley Center for New Media, the Indigenous Technologies Workshop in Summer 2024 is a six-week online course offering our broader community a space to delve into contemporary Indigenous issues, particularly those intertwined with new media and technology. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from prominent Indigenous scholars, artists, and practitioners. Registration for UC Berkeley students is $200. New Media Academy Website

The UC Theatre: Concert Career Pathways Program (Berkeley, CA)

Concert Career Pathways is a 9-month (August-May) workforce development program for young people ages 17-25. Aurora Theatre: Lead Props for The Lifespan of a Fact

Acquire and/or create props, furniture, and most set dressings for production. Provide research, cost estimate, and special handling information of all properties items. Maintain props during performance run and coordinate all prop rental/returns for the production. Basic knowledge of period styles, theatrical practices, repair, and maintenance required.   • CREATE (Creative Residencies for Emerging Artists Teaching Empowerment) invites Berkeley undergraduates to teach classes in visual arts, theater, dance, and/or creative writing to meet the enrichment needs of local schools and community organizations.
  • Dance the Bay strives to make dance accessible for all audiences by providing dance classes for preschool and after school programs, in addition to hospitals and senior homes. 
  • Splash at Berkeley brings local high school students to the University of California, Berkeley for a day of unlimited student-led learning. Participating students take courses in both conventional and unconventional subjects taught by Berkeley students.
