Bio:
William S. Yellow Robe Jr. is an Assiniboine playwright who also acts, directs, and writes poetry and short stories. He grew up on Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Wolf Point, Montana and was encouraged by his middle school teacher to try playwriting. He has since written over 45 plays. He has won awards including: the First Nations Book Award for Drama; first playwright to receive a Princess Grace Foundation Theater Fellowship; first Native American playwright to receive a Jerome Fellowship from the Minneapolis Playwrights' Center; and a New England Theater Foundation Award for Excellence. He is a member of the Penumbra Theatre Company of St. Paul, MN, the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York, and on the board of advisors for Red Eagle Soaring Theatre Company in Seattle, WA He is currently a part-time faculty member at the University of Maine.
