Bio:

José Rivera was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1955 and now lives in Los Angeles. His plays – including THE HOUSE OF RAMON IGLESIA (Ensemble Studio Theatre), THE PROMISE (Los Angeles Theatre Center), and EACH DAY DIES WITH SLEEP (Circle Repertory Company) – have been produced at resident theatres nationwide, as well as at the national theatres of Sweden and Norway. Honors include grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts, a Fulbright Fellowship in Playwriting, and, in 1992, a Whiting Foundation Writers’ Award. In 1986, THE HOUSE OF RAMON IGLESIA appeared on the PBS series American Playhouse. In 1991, he co-created and produced the critically acclaimed TV series "Eerie, Indiana." A scene from his play GIANTS HAVE US IN THEIR BOOKS was part of the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville.
