It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved colleague, Glynn Bartlett, who passed away on May 30, 2026 after battling stage 4 colon cancer.
Glynn was a cherished member of the TDPS community—a gifted scenic artist, puppeteer, and instructor whose creativity and generosity touched countless lives. During his years at Berkeley, he helped bring our productions to life while inspiring generations of students through craft, collaboration, and kindness.
Glynn joined TDPS in 2006 after eight years as a scenic artist for Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Prior to that, he worked as a properties master and scenic artist for A Contemporary Theater in Seattle, and as a freelance artist for companies including Seattle Repertory Theater, Seattle Opera, Seattle Children's Theater, and The Bathhouse Theater. After retiring in 2021, he continued his work as an artist, combining his puppetry practice with his interest in digital filmmaking, animation, and motion design.
Those who knew Glynn will remember his gentle spirit, boundless curiosity, and joyful approach to making art. He had a remarkable ability to build community and bring people together.
In his final days, Glynn was surrounded by family, friends, and an abundance of love. We hold them in our thoughts as we mourn this tremendous loss.
We are deeply grateful for the impact that Glynn left on our department and to the many people fortunate enough to know him. His memory lives on in the artists he mentored and the creativity he inspired.
